As
you cross the Bonner Bridge onto Hatteras Island,
you can feel the pace of life slow down. The trio
of Rodanthe, Waves and Salvo lie at the northern
end of the island, just past the Pea Island
Wildlife Refuge. Hatteras Island is a vacationer's
dream, with wide sandy beaches and beautiful blue
waters. These three northern villages offer many
shops, restaurants, a water park with go-carts and
a sound side day-use area.
While Salvo is
the southernmost town of the tri-village
community, Salvo does not simply blend in with
Rodanthe and Waves, but has a distinct character
all its own. A very relaxed area, Salvo has
a true local feel and is a mostly residential
community.
If relaxation and
quiet is what you're after, Salvo is the perfect
place to relax and recharge, surrounded by the
natural beauty of white sandy beaches, blue waters
and sand hills. Wildlife also abounds, watch the
birds as they search for breakfast on the calm
seas, or jump in the ocean and find an adventure
of your own enjoying the kite boarding, wind
surfing
and
kayaking that
the area's known for. Launch your boat or rent a
canoe and explore the beauty of the Sound, or find
a spot and spend your day catching fish, crabs and
more. If quiet and solitude is what you're after,
you can enjoy the beach and not see anyone for
miles.
